Local planning notes

Planning a worktop
project in Harrow.

In Harrow, add access, parking and any property-specific constraints to your worktop brief. The links below take you to the council’s own guidance, so you can check the arrangements for your address.

Check the delivery route and street restrictions

Before agreeing an installation date, show the prospective fabricator how the surface would travel from a vehicle to the kitchen. Include steps, narrow gates, tight turns and any route through another room.

Harrow Council publishes Controlled Parking Zone information and a map. Check the restrictions and street signs for the actual delivery location rather than assuming a visitor permit covers every arrangement.

If the planned work needs special parking arrangements, read the council’s parking suspension and dispensation guidance and agree with the contractor who will check eligibility and make any application. Availability and approval should not be assumed.

For a flat, check the whole journey

Note the floor level, entrance width, stairs and landings. If a lift is involved, ask the building manager about its dimensions, permitted use and any protection requirements, then give that information to the prospective installer.

Ask about booking deliveries, use of shared areas and permitted working hours. These are questions for your building, not borough-wide rules. Do not infer that a large piece will fit simply because it fits on the kitchen plan.

Check listed-building status before planning wider changes

If the project affects a listed property or includes changes beyond the surface itself, start with the council’s listed-building information. It provides a route to check national listing and find conservation advice.

Do not treat this worktop guide as a decision on whether consent is needed. Describe the actual proposed work to the relevant council team before scheduling changes where the position is uncertain.

Tell us about access to your kitchen

  • General area and type of property, with the full address supplied directly when a provider needs it.
  • Floor level, access route and any restrictions you have checked.
  • What parking or building-management arrangements remain unresolved.
  • Whether the project is a replacement or part of wider kitchen work.

Include your postcode, access notes and any questions about the property when you enquire about your project.

Your next step

Let’s talk about your worktop.

Tell us about your kitchen, the surface you have in mind and what you want to change. A rough sketch or a few photographs are a useful starting point.
